The Artist in Society:  Talking with Hershell West

This is a one-hour film about Hershell West – a painter, muralist, teacher of at-risk youth, and arts promoter.   As a  black man born and raised in the segregated South, he was never expected to have a successful artistic career.  He surprised them all.

With commissioned murals in Florida and California, West also worked as principal assistant to other muralists, most notably, John Wehrle.

He has been honored by cities and counties in California, was president of the board of many arts organizations, and introduced countess youth to the wonders of art..
