The African diaspora - complex and important

The African diaspora includes a very wide variety of people. We can start with Africans who were brought in bondage across the Atlantic to the Americas (both South and North America) from the 16th-19th centuries plus of course, their descendants.   It is a gross over-simplification to imagine that all the hundreds and thousands of enslaved persons came from the same cultures and backgrounds any more than Africa Americans (whether we mean people in North America or South America) are all just cut from the same cloth.

And of course there are the Africans who have recently immigrated, whether for reasons of education (university studies and the like) or economic reasons or as refugees.

Our documentaries about people from the African diaspora are extremely varied, and although they are far too few to capture the rich tapestry of the diaspora itself, they do at least suggest some of the diversity that this diaspora includes.

This banner illustrates some of the arts and diversity that are the focus of our work.
